NextGenPhys@NL & the New PI meeting at NWO Physics on 19 January 2026


Each year there will be a New PI meeting on Monday afternoon at NWO Physics in Veldhoven. In the past year’s this was organised by the DPC. This year’s meeting is in hands of NextGenPhys@NL. Have a look at what it offered and feel welcome to (still) join, even if you have not registered for it.


For who, when and where?

NextGenPhys@NL cordially invites newly appointed principal investigators (PIs) to attend an afternoon meeting held in conjunction with NWO Physics 2026. Attendance is welcome irrespective of prior registration.

The purpose of this meeting is to provide insight into key aspects of the Dutch research landscape and to support the development of a national network for early-career physicists.

ca 17:15-17:30 ends with an inform reception and drinks together with group leaders registered for the Monday evening meeting.


Programme

The central theme of this year’s meeting will be tenure-/career-track regulations across Dutch universities. The programme will include the presentation of the results of our tenure- and career-track survey, as well as the announcement of the first independent NextGenPhys@NL event.

OUTCOME NextGenPhys@NL meeting:

We had a successful new PI with 30+ next gen physicist attending. NextGenPhys board in particular presented a white paper draft on tenure and career track in the Netherlands based on the survey that ran in the end of 2025. On the NextGenPhys website please find info on future NextGenPhys events, including a 1.5 day event in Utrecht June 2-3, and a draft of our white paper on tenure and career track will be published there.
